Newt Pledges Moon Base
Speaking in Florida moments ago, Newt Gingrich pledged to have a permanent US base on the moon by the end of his second term as president. Speaking for myself, that sounds awesome. But I have to assume Team Romney will grab on to that and mock him like crazy. I don’t care how public/private you make it. The budgetary toll of a project like that would have to be massive. And I don’t think there are any strong near term business models for doing stuff on the moon.

You have to be joking though. There is now way to spin this- outside of maybe Florida and Texas (not because all those folks believe this bologna- but because they want their jobs back).
And moon-mining? Does Newt know how deep the Eart’s crust is and how much natural resources we have? (not mention how scrap metals can now easily and efficiently be recycled? (I’ve some some beer money from a scrap-yard down the street before- we DON’T need any moon-mining….Ugghhh. This is a tough pill to swallow, Newt.).
We should have a strong space program and be forward-thinkers*, but not when we have been running record deficits for years (even before the Crash), and have a national debt of 14 trillion. Cut that debt to around 5 trillion… and maybe then we can begin talking about a moon state.
China is already talking about military (weapon-equipped) sattelites, which is on the other hand (very scary to hear), not a completely unrealistic endeavor that NASA (and the Military) may have to confront and build up against (let’s hope that day does not come though- Space Wars? Good Lord, War is already hell here on Earth. Let’s stay down here all, no?
*by the way, this is the most “progressive/liberal” idea I have ever heard of. Way to blow up your campaign Newt!
PS: I think you guys need to change the tagline under the site banner…. It’s Mitt, folks. Like him or hate him- he’s all that’s left.
