Top central banks, including Fed, in pre-emptive strike against euro collapse
And clues that the Fed may step in to the crisis as a backstop of last resort.

Does the introduction of so-called “super PACs” drastically change the political landscape or is it just the next logical step of increasing the impact of money in politics? One person who’s not sure: former Republican Senator and current super PAC chairman Norm Coleman. “So is it a continuum? Is it an ebb and flow? Or is it — from a little different perspective — a fundamental paradigm shift in the way American elections are conducted? Because I feel it’s a little of that too, even though it’s an ebb and flow, because the level of coordination that outside groups can do among themselves but not with candidates and not with parties is pretty incredible,” Coleman said at a breakfast…
Miami’s federal prison plagued by hordes of strippers posing as ‘legal assistants’.
Today on Uncommon Knowledge , Andrew Ferguson and Gerard Baker reveal media sympathies and biases. Keep reading this post . . .
Fire up the Mother of All Credit Cards! Fresh off the news that the Federal Reserve doled out $1.2 trillion in previously undisclosed loans to banks (story here ) in 2008 comes today’s news of the Fed’s latest Bailout of the World — euphemistically known as a global “coordinated action:” Central banks from developed nations Wednesday took coordinated action to shore up the global financial system as Europe’s rolling debt crisis continues to trouble markets. The action by the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of Canada, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, the European Central Bank and the Swiss National Bank makes dollar funding cheaper for European banks that hold dollar-…
Another defection from the gospel of renewable energy, and it’s a biggie: no less than the head of the Brookings Institution’s energy initiative.
The Miami Federal Detention Center is reportedly plagued by women posing as paralegals who instead strip for incarcerated drug lords, according to several people interviewed by the Miami New-Times . The Riptide blog of the New-Times reports that lawyers representing drug lords help the strippers gain access to the prison by having them pose as “legal assistants.” From the report : Among the offenses allegedly committed by so-called paralegals: smuggling in a Playboy, feeding alcohol to an inmate by slipping a straw through a grate, and sneaking in $3,000 inside…
As far as intelligence, they’re at the very low end of the 99%.
There’s a meme bouncing around today which has it that President Obama’s approval numbers have now ‘fallen’ even lower than Jimmy Carter’s at the same point in his presidency. I even heard it picked up on MSNBC. This is a bogus factoid on a couple different levels. President Obama’s approval rating is definitely in the danger zone in reelection terms. But it’s actually been rising over the last month or two. His net disapproval has gone from over ten to roughly 5 percentage points. (You can see a graph here.) This new factoid stems from the

Obama’s Cloud-Based Transparency by Michelle Malkin Creators Syndicate Copyright 2011 At the dawn of his administration, President Obama opined: “A democracy requires accountability, and accountability requires transparency.” Magical rays of white-hot sunlight emanated from his media-manufactured halo. And then bureaucratically engineered darkness settled over the land. For three years, White House officials have rolled out countless executive orders and initiatives touting open government. Just this week, they unveiled plans to move federal archival records from a paper-based to an electronic system. But behind the scenes, Obama’s lawyers systematically have stymied public information requests, carved out crater-sized disclosure loopholes, fought subpoenas on scandals from …
W hat they have to say is what we face if the sequestrations cuts go through: And remember also, as President Reagan says, defense is the highest national priority of government . If you think the world is a dangerous place now, let the sequestration cuts happen. ~McQ Twitter: @McQandO
I love it. Via the SF Chronicle : San Francisco’s law that bans toy giveaways in kids’ meals high in fat, salt and sugar goes into effect Thursday, and at least one fast-food operator has devised a novel way to comply. McDonald’s will start charging customers 10 cents who request the popular plastic trinkets be added to their Happy Meals. The Healthy Food Incentives Ordinance was passed by the Board of Supervisors and withstood a veto by then-Mayor Gavin Newsom last fall. Chain restaurants no longer will be able to give away toys with Happy Meals and other children’s meals that don’t meet the city’s strict nutritional standards. San Francisco drew nationwide scrutiny for passing the ban, with some calling it a good move to combat childhood obesity, while others …
It’s all a conspirtacy against him. Pay no attention to that Fast and Furious behind the curtain.
They gotta go in the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, in unrelated news, I predict massive sales at the Heathrow and Gatwick Duty Free shops on Thursday and Friday.

Yesterday I posted an item saying that Barney Frank was a bully. I got some grief from folks on Twitter, in email and in the comments section (on that front, I was particularly intrigued by the suggestion that I was being anti-Semitic). Anyway, for those who thought my comments were simply driven by ideological or partisan animus, here’s Dana Milbank this morning: No question, Frank is one of the smartest on Capitol Hill and probably the most colorful. But he is also one of the most notorious bullies, known for berating staff, …
World central banks might be worried about another “Lehman event” in Europe. The Euro crisis keeps going from bad to worse. EDIT: Teh Bernank to the rescue? Hey, we’ve got plenty of money, right? If not, we can just…
As the international “climate change” bureaucrats prepare to meet again in Durban, South Africa, NPR science correspondent Richard Harris (who makes the big bucks for nonprofit journalism) has filed several reports relying exclusively on left-wing climate panickers like Alden Meyer of the “Union of Concerned Scientists.” In addition to that, on Tuesday night's All Things Considered , Harris was followed by NPR substitute anchor Guy Raz lamenting to Obama climate negotiator Todd Stern that “we are the only major country in the world that is still debating whether or not climate change is real.”…
(David Bernstein) Jerusalem Post: After 20 months of attacks and a quarter million shekels in damage, a religious bookstore in the ultra-Orthodox Mea She’arim neighborhood of Jerusalem decided on Monday to accede to the demands of extremists responsible for the violence. Under the terms of the compromise, Ohr Hachaim/Manny’s put up a large sign requesting that all customers dress modestly. A mashgiach, who checks the store’s inventory to make sure there are no controversial books, will go over the books in the coming week and require that some books be removed from the shelves, though they will not be permitted to remove any English books, said Marlene Samuels, one of the store’s managers. A haredi group called Sikrikim deemed the store as “promoting immodesty,” and since Manny’s opened in March 2010, the group has…
