Dems Call to Pass O-Care With Simple Up-or-Down Vote

The radicals are going to ram it through… Democrats called today to pass Obamacare and essentially nationalize one-sixth of the American economy with a simple up-or-down majority vote in the House and Senate. The AP reported: The White House called for a “simple up-or-down” vote on health care legislation Sunday as Speaker Nancy Pelosi appealed to House Democrats to get behind President Barack Obama’s chief domestic priority even it if threatens their political careers. In voicing support for a simple majority vote, White House health reform director Nancy-Ann DeParle signaled Obama’s intention to push the Democratic-crafted bill under Senate rules that would overcome GOP stalling tactics. Republicans unanimously oppose the Democratic proposals. Without GOP support, Obama’s only chance of emerging with a policy and political victory is to bypass the bipartisanship he promoted during his televised seven-hour health care summit Thursday. “We’re not talking about changing any rules here,” DeParle said. “All the president’s talking about is: Do we need to address this problem and does it make sense to have a simple, up-or-down vote on whether or not we want to fix these problems?” DeParle was optimistic that the president would have the votes to pass the massive bill. But none of legislation’s advocates who spoke on Sunday indicated that those votes were in hand. Here is a website that lists the phone numbers of your Reps and Senators.

It takes courage to go against the American people

Note: I posted this over at my little blog earlier. I didn’t expect it would get much of a reaction, so I didn’t cross-post it here. Turns out that some liberals trolls have taken offense, and left some really nasty comments. But they left them on teh YouTube, because I don’t allow anonymous comments on my blog. I removed the comments on teh YouTube due to the language. It appears I misunderestimated the impact of this post. However, if being on my little 4-visitor-a-day blog generated that much consternation from the left, imagine what it showing up here would do! House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ( D NS -CA-8), appearing on ABC’s This Week . told Elizabeth Vargas that Democrats need courage to pass health care over the objections of the American people… [ Direct link ] [ Full transcript ] Excerpt transcript: What do you say to your members, when it does come to the House to vote on this, who are in real fear of losing their seats in November if they support you now

ACORN’s Apparent Break-up Not News at AP

&h=&q=90&w=90&h=65&zc=1" class="alignleft" alt="">

In a week where several news outlets recognized significant happenings involving the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), the Associated Press seems to have decided that none of them merit mention. A search on “acorn” at the AP’s main site returns the following: This search doesn’t eliminate the possibility that AP ran local or regional stories, but I didn’t locate any in a Google News search on “ACORN.” What follows is a small sample of other coverage generated as a result of goings-on at ACORN during the past week. Readers can decide whether the wire service has decided that recognizing negative news about a scandal-ridden “progressive” organization is a bad idea: Fox News , Feb. 23 — “ACORN Hopes New Image Can Save Disgraced Advocacy Group” New York Times City Room Blog , Feb. 23 — “Restart, ACORN Edition” Christian Science Monitor , Feb. 23 — “ACORN breaks apart in scandal’s wake” New York Daily News , Feb. 23 — “ACORN’s New York branch to cut all ties with national parent group” Reuters , Feb. 22 — “Scandals weaken liberal group ACORN” AP has done stories with far less substantive raw material from elsewhere. Why not on ACORN

Chris Matthews: It’s Too Soon For George W. Bush Nostalgia

&h=&q=90&w=90&h=65&zc=1" class="alignleft" alt="">

Chris Matthews believes it’s too soon for George W. Bush nostalgia. Such was discussed during this weekend’s syndicated program bearing his name. In fact, Matthews made this his big question of the day asking his guests, “Will there be George W. Bush nostalgia this November when his book comes out?” To his discredit, Matthews was the only person of the five in front of the camera that felt the answer was no concluding, “I think he needs a little more time to be away” (video embedded below the fold with transcript): CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Welcome back

Government-mandated health care explained so even a liberal can understand it

George Will explains a problem with government-mandated health care in a way that even a liberal can understand: [ Direct link ] Excerpt transcript: One question: If the government came to you and said, “Professor Krugman, you have a car. We’re going to compel you to buy a more expensive car, but it’s not really more expensive because it’s a better car.” Wouldn’t you tell them to get off your land? I wish I had thought of that.

Are More Intelligent People More Likely to be Atheists?

In this post , I criticized psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa’s widely discussed recent article claiming that more intelligent people are more likely to be politically liberal. Kanazawa also claims that his data shows that more intelligent people are more likely to be atheists. This claim is better supported than the articles argument about political liberalism. Nonetheless, the evidence isn’t nearly as strong as Kanazawa suggests. My own conjecture is that Kanazawa may be right about countries such as the United States, where atheists are a small minority, but less likely to be correct about the many nations where atheists are a much larger fraction of the population. On the plus side, Kanazawa’s measure of atheism (survey responses stating a lack of religiousity and lack of belief in God) is better than his extremely dubious definition of liberalism.

Let’s Test Climate ‘Science’ With Real Science

Remember the one about Indonesian peat fires ? How the large scale peat fires in 1997 contributed carbon dioxide in amounts up to 40% of a typical year’s global carbon output ? Do you recall that the very next year, 1998, is touted as one of the warmest on record? If saving the planet means drastically reducing carbon emissions, why not start with Indonesia? For all its scientific-sounding pronouncements, Climate Science is anything but a real science.

Pelosi to House Dems: Fall on Your Swords for Health-Care — By: Daniel Foster

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), appearing on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, sent a thinly-veiled message to wavering members of her caucus: passing Obamacare trumps keeping your seat in November. Pelosi also said of the bill that despite sizable public opposition, “the American people need it,” and “We’re here to do the job for the American people.” VARGAS: What do you say to your members, when it does come to the House to vote on this, who are in real fear of losing their seats in November if they support you now? PELOSI: Well first of all our members — every one of them — wants health care. I think everybody wants affordable health care for all Americans. They know that this will take courage. It took courage to pass Social Security. It took courage to pass Medicare.

Barack Obama keeps saying he inherited problems. And, the statistics show that, just maybe, he did. Look at this graph from the Bureau of Labor. But then, take the statistics from this source — the Unites States Senate — showing which party controlled the Senate, and apply it to that graphic

Slut TV

&h=&q=90&w=90&h=65&zc=1" class="alignleft" alt="">

Feminists are mute on Slut TV, but we have them to thank for it. Perhaps thank is the wrong word; we have Feminists to blame for the influx of Slut TV. Yet, their silence regarding the same is deafening. Keeping Up With The Kardashians , Rock of Love , The Bad Girls Club , even Mtv’s The Real World , all epitomize the very worst in female degradation and show just how much damage the “sexual empowerment” fallacy, pushed by the Feminists , has caused. Okay, so maybe we should thank them for that; we are now seeing proof of their agenda driven theories failing in practice. Women, existing solely as sex objects (and the really bad kind) are rampant in the reality show genre.
